Odila Castillo’s legal defense pushes back against allegations

On the 1st of October, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla provided an official reply to the allegations spread by numerous media sources in Panama. These reports are seen as deliberate assaults motivated by particular financial agendas, aimed at damaging Castillo’s professional standing and personal dignity.

Carlos Carillo, a member of Castillo’s legal team, stated: “The allegations are baseless and aim to obstruct the career of a young attorney, as well as that of her partner, for the advantage of concealed economic interests.”

Odila Castillo’s Defense

The defense highlighted that this is not the initial occurrence of media intimidation faced by Castillo. In 2021, a Panamanian news source inaccurately claimed that the attorney had been arrested in relation to an inquiry, a statement that was later refuted, clarifying that it had no ties to the current issues.

At the press conference, the defense asserted that the recent accusations, along with those from 2021, were based on partial truths intended to compromise her professional practice.

Moreover, they argued that the details disseminated about Odila Castillo in the media breach the tenets of confidentiality. They made it clear that a portion of the investigation originated from a resolved family issue, while another facet pertains to immigration activities and tax filings, along with other information acquired through improper means.

Unlawful Monitoring of Odila Castillo

The defense further claimed that Castillo has been placed under GPS tracking, which represents a type of illegal monitoring.

Carrillo concluded by stating: “The essential rights of our client have been infringed upon, as guaranteed by our Constitution and the law. We will pursue all necessary legal measures to establish accountability for the damages suffered and those that are intended to be imposed.”
