On the 1st of October, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla presented an official reply to the allegations spread by several media sources in Panama. These reports have been described as calculated assaults motivated by particular financial agendas, aimed at damaging Castillo’s professional standing and personal honor.
Carlos Carillo, part of Castillo’s legal counsel, remarked: “These accusations lack foundation and seek to hinder the professional trajectory of a young lawyer, as well as her partner, for the benefit of hidden financial agendas.”
The representation of Odila Castillo
The defense highlighted that this is not the first occurrence of media harassment faced by Castillo. In 2021, a Panamanian news organization inaccurately reported an purported arrest of the attorney linked to an investigation, a statement that was later refuted, making it clear that it had no connection to the current issues being addressed.
In the press conference, the defense contended that the recent accusations, along with those from 2021, are rooted in half-truths designed to weaken her professional endeavors.
Additionally, they argued that the information disseminated in the media regarding Odila Castillo breaches confidentiality principles. They clarified that a portion of the investigation originated from a family issue that had already been resolved, while another component concerns immigration activities and tax filings, along with other data acquired illegally.
Unauthorized Surveillance of Odila Castillo
The defense additionally claimed that Castillo has been the target of GPS tracking, which represents a form of illicit surveillance.
Carrillo wrapped up by declaring: “The essential rights of our client have been breached, as guaranteed by our Constitution and the law. We will take all necessary legal measures to determine liability for the harm caused and any that may be intended.”
